21 July 1857, the SV Monasco was shipwrecked near Corbin on the Burin Peninsula at what is now called Monasco Head. The American barque, owned in Warren, Maine, was on voyage from Goteborg, Sweden to New York, with a cargo of iron and a number of Swedish passengers.
