Ran aground at Point la Haye in thick fog on 15 July 1917. A British 51m wooden cargo sail and steam ship built at Glasgow in 1873.
The SS Bloodhound was purchased by the British Admiralty in 1874 and for the British Arctic Expedition 1875-1876 under the name HMS Discovery. On May 29, 1875, the Expedition departed Portsmouth, England with two ships, HMS Alert and HMS Discovery, on a voyage to the Canadian High Arctic to advance scientific knowledge of the Arctic and carry out sledging excursions as far north as possible (Virtual Museums Canada).
The Bloodhound was last owned by Murray and Crawford of Glasgow when she wrecked with a cargo of coal for St. John’s.
