Shipwreck Preservation Society

of Newfoundland & Labrador

SPSNL hosted a presentation on the Wreck of the SS Florizel at the Admiralty House Museum in Mount Pearl at 7:30pm on Friday, March 28. This famous vessel went to the annual seal hunt and carried the First 500 of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment to Europe in 1914. However, one hundred people died when she ran aground and was lost in Cappahayden in February 1918. Only 44 survived until rescue arrived. We watched an episode of Land & Sea on the Florizel and then toured the museum displays on the Florizel and other Newfoundland shipwrecks.
